The Indian startup ecosystem is growing abundantly although many faced difficulties during the Covid crisis. According to Economic Times, the Economic Survey 2020-21 says that the Government has recognized 41,061 startups so far, more than 39,000 of which have reported 4,70,000 jobs.
Startups have also been contributing to society in different ways, creating an impact in healthcare, agriculture, education, etc. With a new and clear vision, innovators are creating a social impact. Let us look at some of the Indian Startups that have been tirelessly working towards social causes.
Niramai
A Bangalore-based health tech startup, Niramai has been receiving applauds for a few years. The startup was launched in 2016 with two women, Dr. Geetha Manjunath and Nidhi Mathur spearheading the company. With over 2 years of experience in IT innovation, Geetha created Niramai to detect early-stage breast cancer in a non-invasive and radiation-free way.
Niramai has received various recognitions including from Startup India. The startup offers a low-cost, accurate, portable screening tool that is developed from AI and Machine learning algorithms to accurately detect breast cancer.
Sigtuple
The startup founded in 2015 leads its way towards innovating health tech and providing accessible, accurate, and affordable healthcare. Sigtuple was launched by Tathagata Rai Dastidar, Rohit Kumar Pandey, and Apurv Anand. Although Rohit and Apurv recently stepped out leaving, Tathagatha Rai as the current CEO of the company.
Sigtuple is based out of Bangalore and builds smart screening solutions. The startup leverages AI, robotics, computer vision, and data science to automate high-volume diagnostics. One of its products, Drishti uses a SaaS platform to screen diabetic retinopathy and can detect Glaucoma and Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). The AI-driven diagnostics and analytics increase convenience, scalability, and reliability. Sigtuple is a winner of RAISE 2020, an AI solution challenge by the Government of India.
EmpowerU by Promorph
There are several challenges India is facing to provide quality education, especially in the government educational institutions. EmpowerU developed by Promorph Solutions is a platform that provides real-time monitoring of public schools and tracks their improvement. Monitoring of mid-day meals, facilities, learning outcome of students, attendance tracking, performance evaluation of both students and teachers, are the services offered by the startup. EmpowerU, the brainchild of Onkar Prasad was launched in 2015 and is incubated at the SIDBI SIIC, IIT Kanpur. Using AI, technology, and data analytics, EmpowerU is promising a better public education system with improved governance and policy making.
Ambee
An environment intelligent startup, Ambee was launched in 2017 in Bangalore. The startup offers to monitor and analyze hyperlocal air quality through AI-powered solutions. They say that the air quality data is collected from on-ground sensors, satellite imagery, and statistical inference and uses AI algorithms based on machine learning and mathematical models.
Ambee’s data APIs has a wide range of applications and can be integrated into healthcare devices, weather monitoring, consumer hardware and homes, smart cities, and utilities.
Madhusudhan Anand, Akshay Joshi, and Jaideep Singh Bachher are the founders of Ambee and they are working towards a cleaner, healthier, environmentally-empowered society. Google, Launchpad, and Venture Catalysts are some of their investors.
Sequeretek
Cybersecurity is a significant factor of digital transformation and most enterprises lack the ability to streamline their security measures. Sequeretek offers simplified security solutions with enhanced visibility into a company. The Mumbai-based startup was founded by enterprise business veterans Anand Naik and Pankit Desai in 2013. Sequeretek also has its offices in New Delhi, Bangalore, and the USA. The startup offers endpoint security products, user access governance, and managed detection and response. According to Sequeretek, it is one of the very few companies that provides a blend of its own threat intelligence products along with on-premise and cloud solutions.
Sequeretek leverages AI and machine learning for advanced threat detection and prevention, managing vulnerabilities, and enhancing cybersecurity. The company was a winner at the RAISE2020 initiative of the Government of India.
